We the Temple of the Moon hope to do more than delve into the "dark side" of the Goddess and of our own psyches. We have also set ourselves the task of researching the selected Goddesses as thoroughly as we can and incorporating elements of ancient worship and ritual performed for Her (as much as they may be known) into our own ritual. We do not intend to recreate ancient ritu participants to the culture (or cultures) that have honoured the Goddess before us. The characteristics of Goddess are intrinsically entwined with the characteristics of the culture that reveres Her. That is why She changes over time, as the cultures that believe in Her change. In incorporating elements of older understanding of Goddess with our current understanding of Her we wish to give participants a richer appreciation, and perhaps a thirst to take up the research for themselves. One thing we have noticed as we begin this process is how many contradictory theories exist about Her, in all of Her forms and names. Just about nothing can be guaranteed to be undisputed! In selecting what to include in a ritual, we are not taking sides, or deciding what is "Right". Ulti interpretation of what Goddess means to us decides what does and does not get incorporated into our rituals. After all, that is the way She has always survived down through time. By bringing elements of ancient worship and ritual into our own ritual, we aim to recognise that the idea of Goddess has been around for a very long time and that there is value in understanding what She has meant to those that came before us, even if She means something very different to us now.
